Alla helgons dag (All Saints Day) Saturday Nov 3

Hi all
This is not something which you want to miss!
On Saturday evening there willbe at least one cancle or somekind of light on almost all graves in Sweden. Amazing view in the grave yards.
I think we start our trip from school (point A). walk to the church near (point B) then we walk back to the city go by the grave yard near school and river and then finish our trip in the grave yard near point C.
It says 8 km but count on 10 km. 3 hours. because we would stay in each and every point to OBSERVE and take pictures.
We can start at 15:00 to make sure we get the chance to see the moon which is appear 71% on Saturday and see the lights in the dark.
warm clothes and good humor and some snacks. Candles if you want to contribute would be very proper.
Please read about ot ask about the traditions in Sweden how to act in a grave yard so that we do not do anything insulting. There will be a lot of local people in each grave yard.
looking forward to see you.

Detective administrative fun work

We want a list of all our activities from 2007 till now with date and route; with the name of people who have taken part in it and their nationalities. If there is a group picture from the activity it should also be attached.

(there is a good example of it in our blogspot which is called "history")

This will be a work you do once and you keep doing till you leave Sweden. so you should continue recording the upcoming activities as well.

And this work will not be for free. It does not mean you get paid in cash but somehow we will show you our appriciation.

And this appriciation will be discussed from the begining so that you don't get too suprized or disappointed at the end!

Apply for the work by sending a comment to this post with your telephone number and I will get back to you.

report and announcement

Hi,
I am also starting to be a Facebook person which I don't like!
I forgot to update our blog though we had an event published on our Facebook group.
We went Canoeing last week. I could not go but those who went say that they enjoyed it.
This week we'll walk from Skultuna church to Västerås on Bruksleden.
Saturday 2012-10-06
We take the bus 46 at 9:10 from Central Station in Västerås and expect  the trip tp be around 20 kms and takes at least 6 hours.
it will be wet on the way and there is a risk that we get lost for a while since there were so few marks last time we checked the trek.
Don't forget your good humor, snack, food and water.
Welcome to join.
Call us if there were any questions.

Mushroom Picking Rule (by Roine)

This nice guys sometimes grows together with…

DELICIOUS !

Trattkantarell Cantharéllus tubaeformis

…this poisonous guys

DEADLY !

Toppig Giftspindling Cortinárius rubéllus
If you eat this guy you will not have any symptoms (intense thirst, tiredness, pain in the kidneys, first increasing urine production – then decreasing) until about one or two weeks later! And then it´s probably to late for treatment. The poison orellanin have destroyed cells in your kidneys. You may trick the death by dialysis for the rest of your life. Or by a kidney transplantation.

So!

Look at EVERY mushroom you pick. Are you not 100% sure what it is?... Leave it!

Rule: Do NOT pick Brown mushrooms with Brown lamellae (skivor)!

Trattkantarell

Cantharéllus tubaeformis

“Funnelkantarell”. From latin cantharum, cup and tubaeformis, “like a trumpet”.
Also called “chicken leg mushroom” in English.
Västmanlands landskapssvamp!
The mushroom of the province Västmanland!

2 stock cubes (buljongtärningar)
2 dl créme fraiche
1 table spoon tomato purée
salt
pepper
1 table spoon pressed lemon (citron)
chive (finskuren gräslök). Only if you have.

TO DO
-Chop the” trattisar” in “lagom” big pieces.
-Fry them in butter, with the onion, for 10 minutes in a pot with place for the soup.
-Wheat-flour over it and a little water (1-2 dl) and stir to a smouth consistency.
-The rest of water in, together with the stock cubes.
-Boil softly for 20 minutes.
-Beat the crème fraiche and purée into the soup.
-Fullfill the taste with salt and pepper. And lemon (or Madeira if you can)

Voilá!
Yum yum

final info about 2012-Sep-22 (Mushroom, Apple, Hallstahammar)

Hi Happy People!

Here comes the final information about our complex event tomorrow!

1- Those four lucky people go to Kåren at 9:30 and meet Roine there. His number is: 073 039 67 97

He waits for you guys there. Please send him a text or call him if you don't want to go or will be late or you simply cannot find him.

You guys drive to Hallstahammar and meet us there. (either at the bus terminal to walk with us to the garden or you drive directly there and wait for us at the farm. You can decide about that with Roine)

2- The other group including the poor organizers, come to main station in Västerås before 9:15 and buy our tickets from the office in the station building or the SJ machines that are available also in the station building. I don't think we can buy our tickets on the bus and I am not sure about it but let's do not risk our trip. You can also go to the page: www.sj.se and buy your ticket online then you don't need to come sooner but latest 9:29 so that you get on the bus at least! It is recommended that we buy our return tickets at the same time so that we don't need to worry about it on the way back. There is normally a discount for students or young people. Ask for it before you pay.

3- it is around 3 km walk from bus station in Hallstahammar to the Apple Garden. There we will meet Jackie who is one of the oldest Club members and he will guide us to the garden.

4- It is going to be rainy (90%), good shoes, good clothes is highly recommended! Welcome to Sweden!

5- We take the bus at 16:00 back towards Västerås which will also be a 30 minute trip.

6- Have you got your own car? feel free to drive to Hallstahammar yourself. You can absolutely use Roine as a road guide and drive after him at 9:30. It will not harm to take some other people in the car with you! ;)

7- Do you want to buy Mushroom soup and homemade bread or ecological fruit? Bring cash otherwise bring your own snack and food.

8- And at last but not least a small reminder as mentioned in the introduction meeting: We do our best and we do it because we want to and not because we have to! Do not expect too much. The budget for the whole year for the hiking club is 3000 SEk and we rather use it for material which will stay in the club so that more people will use. Neither of us gets paid so please lower your expectations.

Ecological apple farming and mushroom picking

On Saturday 2012-09-22 we will be visiting an ecological Apple Farm in Hallstahammar.

They have open house as it is called in Swedish. We will be guided through the gardens and we can ask questions about ecological agriculture and buy fresh apples (bring cash with yourselves).

You may want to read more about the project in the following link:

After that, we will be heading in forest (around Hallstahammar) and Roine who is intrested in Mushrooms and mushroom picking will be with us, explaining which kinds of mushrooms are edible, where can you find them and how should you pick them and maybe some good recepies. ;)

Hiking Club will provide you with some mushroom knives and some paper bags to put the mushrooms you pick in it. Feel free ofcourse to bring your own bags (not plastic ones) and knives.

The plan is to meet infront of the Kåren at 9:30 and be back in Västerås latest 16:00 to be able to participate in the Västerås Culture Night (http://www.vasteraskulturnatt.se/).

We need to drive to Hallstahammar which is 20 minutes from Västerås. Right now we have two cars and 4 places are already occupied. Please let us know if you are definately coming so that we keep a place for you.
Booking can happen by sending a message including your name to the number: 070 74 17 386.

If we receive more than 6 more registrations we will be asking kåren for their car or might ask students with car to drive us there and get paid for their fuel.
We have made arrangements so that they have the presentations in English for us both in the apple garden and for the mushrooms.

Bring some snack, water and something to grill with yourselves for lunch. Desposable Grills will be provided by the club.
We got informed taht at the ecological garden they will be selling soups and home baked bread. Lets bring some cash and buy our lunch there. It will be a kind of support to them also.

Rocklunda 20120915 (21 Km)

Hi to you all who came and did not come!
It was a fun day. Starting with a walk in the area of Rocklunda. Picking up some mushrooms, some berries and meeting some nice, happy Swedes.
Then we had BBQ at the back yard of Kåren and enjoyed the sun which was so warm that some of us tried Swiming in the big lake which is called Mälaren.
