so here we are,
tomorrow, Saturday the 28th of november, we meet at the main entrance of the university at 9:30 and drive up north 70 kilometers. and so on so forth as explained before.
don't forget enough water,
candles,
enough food,
warm clothes,
cards to play or books to read,
paper for fire making,
sleeping bag,
lights,
extra socks,
yummy godis, chocolate, snacks and .... :)
There is the possibility that the cottage is occupied, be ready to get back to the Västerås the same night.

Larissa said she wants to come and she has a place reserved for her but I could not reach her for the final meeting time/place confirmation.
We have three places left for those who want to come but do not stay over the night, they can come back with bjorn's car on the same day.

staying the night in the cottage

Hi dear hiker friends

This week as promised we are going to do a hiking some where 70 kilometers in the north of Vasteras to do hiking and staying the night in a cottage.

We have two cars. but we are going to be two groups of people.

one group stays the night, one group goes back to Västerås. Right now, people who have said taht they will join for sure are Anna, Constance, Me, Tobias, Melika and Bjorn and as Tobias, Anna, Constance and me are going to stay in the cottage, we still have one place for someone who wants to stay and as Melika and Bjorn are coming back to Västerås by teh secodn car, we have three space for ones who want do the hiking and go back in the afternoon.

the plan is roughly like this:

Leaving Västerås on Saturday morning (around 9:00), getting to the parking place, hiking around 12 kilometers and getting ready for the night (making fire, food, water and ...)

at the same time the second group will be walking back to the car and driving to Västerås.

Any amusing material such as chess, cards, paper and pen is suggested, Candles, Extra warm clothes, extra socks, first aid packages, head lamps or at least torches is strongly recomended, without sleeping bag it does not work at all.

The day after taht will be sunday, we will be doing another short hiking (after breakfast) and get to the car and drive back to Västerås.

Please be careful with water and food storage and being efficient not to have too much not too few.

We will be posting a last final meeting point/time message tomorrow afternoon.

Since me and Constance can not joing this week and we are so selfish, we decided to change the plan to the next week. but this week we will try to have something small.
The problem is that I am going to Goteborg tomorrow and have not bought any return ticket hoping for cheap last minute ones and Constance is having an exam in Stockholm.

Hi dear friends.
Though it was a short notice, we were a group of three who gathered in JM-Hallen and did some Ice Skating.
I bought my shoes in Myrorna for 90 Kronor and the Ice Skating field was free and not that crowded.
It was my firt time, I enjoyed a lot and curently I am hoping for the least pain in my muscles.
For the next week as promised we are going for a two days hike including one night which will be spent in a cottage in the middle of woods.
Since the space is limited and the facilities, the priority goes to the ones who have been on at least one hiking during the new Semester (since sep 2009).
We might have space for the maximum number of 8 people. people who are interested please call me or constance and give a 100% yes latest wednesday 18th. First people contacting are prioretized.
The plan is roughly like this:
70 KM to the north by car, between 10 to 20 kms hiking on Saturday, making fire eating and getting ready for the night, sleeping in the cottage, walking back to the cars hopefully from another path but around the same length on Sunday.
Good sleeping bags. water countainers and food for two days is required.
(If there are so many people interested but no space available for this time, we will make sure to have an other plan like this for them on the same date or soon)

ICE skating

Hi dear hikers! :)

Since ice skating and skiing season is on its way, maybe it is proper to give the ice skating salon in Västerås a try.

Tomorrow it will be rainy and the JM Hallen which is an indoor skating field is open from 17:00 to 21:00.

We can meet by JM Hallen around 17:30 and give ice skating a try or if you have done it before, just enjoy the time together.

Unfortunately they donn't rent out shoes but I personally am ging to buy a pair in Myrorna tomorrow.

Yesterday I was there, they had at least 6 pairs of ice skates from 40 to 300 SEK.

Hiking from Skultuna on 7th day of every mounth?

Hi dear friends.

Tomorrow we will take the bus46 at 10:20 (but please be there earlier because it takes time to buy the tickets from the office inside or the machine outside!) towards Skultuna, we get of the bus in the station named Skultuna Kyrkan and then walk back to our home city! :)

You just said: "Come on we have done it before"?

I say: "No!"

We are taking another way rather than Bruksleden which Bjorn has found on the map and will hopefully help us tomorrow to find it easily. (it is tagged as alternative on the map, shown above!)

It will take some time between 4 to 6 hours depending on how much we slow down to jump over a puddle of water or take a picture or make fire, boil water and make tea! ;)

Hi dear hikers! Exam time? Halloween party?

OK Just a short hiking from Meeting point on Bjorno (in front of the first restaurant after the bridge) and making a loop of 10 KM in approximately 2 and a half hours.

Lets meet at 11o'clock in the meeting point.

IF you want to ride your bicycle from Park or Sundinska we can go at 10:20 from Sundinska together.

We can BBQ after the hiking or easily go to the restaurant if they are open.

It will be very beautiful with all the autumn colours.

20th hike

Hi everyone!

On Saturday the 24th we will hike between Hallstahammar and Surahammar.

It will be an easy 16.5 km hike, though we will go through swamps, so don't forget good shoes!

We will take the bus from Västerås central at 11.30, please be there before to buy your tickets in time.We will arrive at hallstahammar at 12.00 and start our trip.

It will take us around 4, 5 hours, depending on our team level, weather (cloudy) and the track's condition.We can take bus back home at 17:00/ 17:22 (train)/ 20:30/23:10

We might stop in Surahammar and eat a bit.

Dear hikers!On Saturday we will meet at the main entrance of the uni at 10.00 and make our way to Hallstahammar. The hike is 25 km long so count between 6 and 8 hours.You will have the possibility to have a dinner there or to take a train or bus back to västerås (42 and 44 sek).the first train is at 17.30, then buses at 18.00, 20.00 and 23.00.It should be raining so don't forget to bring good clothes as well as your meal and good mood with you!

Report of the Skultuna Hike!

Hi!
We were 8 people and did take the bus to Skultuna Kyrkan, walk to Bruksleden and took the path all the way to Västerås.
It started at 10:00 in the central station and finished at 18:30 at the same spot.
The weather was not bad as we expected instead it was actually very good.
We were Bjorn, Melika, Constance, Eva, Marion and Maya, me and Anna if I am not wrong with the spellings.
We had long stops for taking picture or for finding a way to avoid the water or checking the Old Curchs on the way or making fire for boiling the water and making tea! :)
We found some mushrooms and berries on the way.
Some got wet in their shoes but we had fun and we made friends.
Next hikings plan will be posted soon.

Skultuna!

Hi dear Hikers,
We are going to Skultuna in nourth of Västerås on this Saturday.

It will be cloudy and cold on Saturday but as swedes say,

There is no bad weather, there is just bad clothing!

(check the weather forcast websites yourselves please!)
So take rain jackets, warm clothes, extra socks, good shoes.

It gonna be around 18 kms to walk from Skultuna Kyrkan(Point A on the map) to Västerås.
We suggest to meet at the central station at 10:00 in the morning and buy our bus tickets by our mobiles or the ticket machines. (It might take some time, have money on your mobiles or take money or credit card to pay on the ticket machines)

The bus number 46 goes to Skultuna. The ticket will be less than 35 SEK.

We suggest to take the one at 10:20 and get of the bus in the station "Skultuna Kyrkan" which is shown as "Skultuna k:a" in the list of stations in the website http://www.vl.se/ and then reach the red path on the map no.1 from http://www.bruksleden.se/ and take it directly to Västerås. We suggest the purple path on the following picture but check it please on Bruksleden yourselves too.
We expect it to take maximum between 4 to 5 hours to get back in Västerås.
Take enough water and food for yourselves and don't forget your GOOD MOODS at home or if you have been on the trip to Helsinky in Finland or on the way back or any other possible place!

p.s.1. There is an old church (Skerike kyrka) on the way back at the "Point B" that is absolutely worth visiting. p.s.2. The emphasis is taht every body feels the responsibility of checking the posted information too. We suggest you check and choose.

We did go canoeing and it was fun!

It is not a big problem for hikers but since we are in Autumn and we can still have nice weather I thought we can have a nice after cruise (Helsinki) hiking.

Canoeing!!!

Plan for Saturday 19th of SEPTEMBER

Hi everybody!
Last week we had a nice rookie hiking with a good group of new and old students. We went on cycle to the Bjorno island and had a short (half an hour) walk to the BBQ place and we did make a fire and met another group of students there and ate and drank a little bit and then some crazy ones swam in the lake and we went back to the Retaurant and had a fika and then went home!

This weekend lets have something more serious and we will meet on Bjorno at the parking place in front of the restaurant. We will rent Canoes and Kayaks and start our sailing trip at 10:00.

The number of the Canoes are limited so don't be late so that you can get one.

How to go there

For those who don't know how to go to Björnö, we will have two different groups.
One GOING from Sundinska, leading by Mahgol.
And another one CYCLING from the Uni leading by me.

Sundiska group will leave at 10, you should meet near the entrance, for more information please refer to Mahgol mahgol.amin@gmail.com

The Uni group will meet at 11.10 at the Uni main entrance.

Some questions:
What if I leave in Sundinska but want to cycle to Björnö?
Join us at uni. Or take your bike with you and use it on the way back.'

What if I want to go to björnö but live near uni?
Same thing, just take the bus to Sundinska and join the team there, ask Mahgol to know more about the bus.

Do I HAVE to join?
No, it's just to make it easy for you to go there or funny. We will wait for you at the meeting point on björnö.

Can I go there by bus?
VL doesn't offer so many buses to Björnö so check the website, you can as well come on foot and come back by bus.

New Start!

As new students have arrived and weather is getting in a way that maybe people need some motivation or company to go out and spend some time in nature, so we are back!

at the moment what is being planned is a kayaking/canoeing trip on Mälaren around Björno!

Sounds cool I think.

What do the international students on week ends in Sweden?Vlt met a gang who decided to hike between Hallstahammar and Surahammar.
The eight students from Mälardalen University arrived by bus to Hallstahammar on saturday's morning. They got to ask to be able to find the start point, near Motionscentrum.
- We were expecting to find a map of Hallstammar, but there is none, explain Mahgol Amin from Iran.
Despite the terrible weather, and the lake of a good map, every one's face were smiling.The students from Germany, China, France, Iran and czech republic were determined to hike on the 16 km long pathbetween the two places.
-We calculated at it will take us 5 hours. We will have a late lunch or an early dinner in Surahammar, says Mahgol Amin.
It's the seventh Hike that the group does in Västmanland and Södermanland. Some of the students use to hike in their homelands.Tomas Pop from Czech republic see a difference between the swedish and the czech nature.
- it's wilder and unspoiled here, Forest are deeper.'
December's weather isn't the same than in czech re. Not always snow.'
-But we have longer days he says.
Something which take all its importance when Mahgol Amin thinks we have been speaking enough.It's time to move on.
-Otherwise we will have to hike in the dark, she says.

15th Hiking 19 March 2009

I know it is a late announcement but late is better than never.

Here is the plan.

We take the train from Västerås to Eskilstuna at 7:35 and get off the train on the way in Kvicksund.

There we walk along the coast and reach Torshälla in 6 hours.

We should take the bus to Eskilstuna and catch the train to Västerås at 15:52.

Lode has done it two or three weeks ago and he said that it has been nice and ofcourse possible.

So once more don't forget your student cards and good food and mood!

The weather will be sunny but not that warm.

be prepared for the wind along the coast.

14th Hiking 11 April 2009

There are two options that we have one at the east coast of Mälaren (on Björno) and one at the west coast(Lövudden).

It is kind of easy to go to both but I know that there are some other students who have already decided to go to Bjärno so there is the upportunity of joining them.

I would say lets take this hike easy and basically walk just 6 to 10 kms and focus on a high quality BBQ!

Bring your BBQ material (Chicken, Meat, Vegetables, bread, mustard, drinks, music, camera and ...)

feel free to bring any thing for playing. cards, vollyballs, badminton or ...

so we'll meet at 10 in the centralstation and walk to either any of these two directions and take it easy at the Mälaren coast and enjoy sun.

If you woke up and decided not to go because of not having anything to bbq donät worry we might have a stop by lidle or ICA, Coop or Hemköp on the way to any of these.I will upload some pictures of Lövudden as well coz I know that you all know how Björno looks like.

Since I had not fixed my watch as the new summer time, we all missed the last hike as it was supposed to be. I hope it never happens again.Lets go to the planed hike for last week, this week. We should meet at the Central satation at 9:00 (Summer time! :) )and take the bus number 46 to Skultuna at 9:10.

The ones who came for the last hike (They are four whose names I have so don't try to cheat ;) ) will get their tickets for free but the others can try to buy their tickets from the machine or try to find out how they shoudl do it by their mobiles if they got there earlier otherwise we can find it out all to gether.

We get of the bus at one station before Skultuna (Skultuna Kyrkan)to make a little shortcut to the hiking track. We will walk around 20 kms on Bruksleden and enter Västerås in Rocklunda. I think it might take us max 6 hours so we can be in Västerås at 4 pm.

Maybe afterwards a fika in the city?

11th Hiking 21 March 2009

Here we are with the 11th Hiking!

Today Nick, Romain, Constance, David and Hubert joined for planning the next two hikings.

I thank them for their contribution.

We decided to go to Surahammar at 10:45 from Vasteras central station by bus number 514 and start our 18 km hike to Hallstahammar.

We are supposed to be in Hallstahammar before 18:00 so that we can take the bus number 511 back to vasteras but if we can't or don't want (in case we have so much fun in the pub resturant in Hallstahammar) we can take the next train at 20:00.

Please bring enough water and extra socks and have good shoes on and bring sweets and godis :D

The weather is expected to be sunny-cloudy but no rain or snow and it will be +3 or more.

10th Hiking 14 March 2009

We go to Hallstahammar.

It is a 25 kms long hike.It might rain a little bit before noon and snow later in teh afternoon but it is warm: +3 C. :D

The plan is to get the bus in Hallstahammar at 16:00 to Västerås. Hope fully we make it but if not there is another bus at 18:00 and one more at 20:00.We have the rout on map so no way we get lost this time! loooooooool

Let's meet in the Central Station in Vasteras at 08:30 and start our hike. Please wear shoes that don't get wet easily and something to protect you from wind and rain.

Bring something to eat and extra socks. If you have a Campus and lighter please bring it with you so that we might make a small fire somewhere on the way.

9th Hiking 7 March 2009

So here is the plan. We go by train from Vasteras to Eskilstuna for free at 7:35. (So please meet us up at 7:25 in the main "hall" in Central station) Is it too early? Yes I know, but then we come back early as well. :) We will be there in Eskilstuna at 8:07. We will have a short tour to the river and lake in Eskilstuna till we can get the first bus bringing us to Sundbyholm at 8:55. We will be near Sigurdsristningen at 9:20. (the bus will cost 27 as mentioned in the website.) We will look at the wonderful carving and the castle and then a small nice peninsula in north of Sundbyholm and then start our 12 km hike to Eskilstuna. We should try to make it before 15:52 when our train leaves Eskilstuna to Vasteras. We will be back in Västerås at 16:25.You think we can make it? I hope so. Let's give it a try. ;)

OBS. Please don't forget to bring spare socks. warm clothes and enough food and water. I checked the weather online. Snow Sledding 22 Feb 2009

We meet up in Central Sattion of Vasteras ofcourse at 12 and Hubert will be there waiting for you. :)

He has some Snow Sleds and he will bring it with him.

Then the group will do a short hike about half an hour to the Lidle on Bjornovagen.

At the back side of Lidle thre is a slope that can be used for sledding. :)

Please have waterproof clothes on so that you don't get wet.

Bring something to eat like a sandwich or whatever. :)

And lets have a short but fun afternoon.

8th Hiking 31 Jan 2009

We meet at 9 in the main entrance of Sundinska and will walk to Bjorno.

The rest of the people will join us in front of Lidl on Bjornovagen at 10 am.

We will take the green hiking trail on Bjorno (10 kms), and finish at the grilling spot on the beach on the west coast of the island.

Please bring something to grill and eat, something to open and drink!

7th Hiking 6 Dec 2008

Hi, here is the plan for the 7th hike:

We meet at the Vasteras Centralstation at 9:20. At 9:30

we take the bus number 511 to Hallstahammar,

we will arive at Hallstahammar at 10:00.

Then, we will walk to Surahammar (about 15 km).

It might take us at most 5 hours.

At 17:00 there is a bus going back to Vasteras from there.

Plase take some money for the bus (cca 40 SEK).

6th Hiking 29 Nov 2008

Hi, here is the plan for the 6th hike (Saturday 29. November):

We are planning to visit Tido - Lindo, an island southern from Vasteras (map is in the Photos section).

Because it is too distant to walk both ways, we decided to go one way by bus (please take some money for the bus).

We will take a bus to Tido-Lindo in the morning, then spend some time in the city on the island, then walk back to Vasteras .

The weather forecast says that it should get warmer in the end of the week, but maybe with some rain.

So be prepared for everything:).

Here is the schedule:7:45

- Meeting at the Vasteras Centralstation7:55

- Bus number 25 departures from Centralstation8:28

- Bus arrives at Tido-LindoTill 11:00

- Roundtrip around the island (cca 4 km).

Then walking back to Vasteras (cca 15 km) along the shore of the lake.

We should be back in the center 15-ish, we suppose :-).

Yooohoooo!It seems like the weather forecast has not been that inaccurate and Saturday will be cloudy and 1 cm of snow in the morning but the rest of the day should be sunny with some clouds passing by.
So here is the plan for the fifth IC hiking on Saturday 22nd of November 20089:00 from Sundinska (Centrallasarettet, Ing. 21)10:30 meeting at the health point in front of the restaurant on Bjorno.10:45 starting the green hiking trail (8 kms to the grilling spot at the beach)12:30 meeting at the grilling spot on the beach on the west coast of the island.
After that I think it depends on our moods we should just keep in mind that there is a 2 km walk for those who left their bikes at the health center of the island before the hike and 8.5 kms walk for those who started from Sundinska.
And the Sunset time is 15:11.Please bring something to grill and eat, something to open and drink!There is a map of our meeting points on Bjorno in the Photos of the Club! Hope you find it.
