final info about 2012-Sep-22 (Mushroom, Apple, Hallstahammar)

Hi Happy People!

Here comes the final information about our complex event tomorrow!

1- Those four lucky people go to Kåren at 9:30 and meet Roine there. His number is: 073 039 67 97

He waits for you guys there. Please send him a text or call him if you don't want to go or will be late or you simply cannot find him.

You guys drive to Hallstahammar and meet us there. (either at the bus terminal to walk with us to the garden or you drive directly there and wait for us at the farm. You can decide about that with Roine)

2- The other group including the poor organizers, come to main station in Västerås before 9:15 and buy our tickets from the office in the station building or the SJ machines that are available also in the station building. I don't think we can buy our tickets on the bus and I am not sure about it but let's do not risk our trip. You can also go to the page: www.sj.se and buy your ticket online then you don't need to come sooner but latest 9:29 so that you get on the bus at least! It is recommended that we buy our return tickets at the same time so that we don't need to worry about it on the way back. There is normally a discount for students or young people. Ask for it before you pay.

3- it is around 3 km walk from bus station in Hallstahammar to the Apple Garden. There we will meet Jackie who is one of the oldest Club members and he will guide us to the garden.

4- It is going to be rainy (90%), good shoes, good clothes is highly recommended! Welcome to Sweden!

5- We take the bus at 16:00 back towards Västerås which will also be a 30 minute trip.

6- Have you got your own car? feel free to drive to Hallstahammar yourself. You can absolutely use Roine as a road guide and drive after him at 9:30. It will not harm to take some other people in the car with you! ;)

7- Do you want to buy Mushroom soup and homemade bread or ecological fruit? Bring cash otherwise bring your own snack and food.

8- And at last but not least a small reminder as mentioned in the introduction meeting: We do our best and we do it because we want to and not because we have to! Do not expect too much. The budget for the whole year for the hiking club is 3000 SEk and we rather use it for material which will stay in the club so that more people will use. Neither of us gets paid so please lower your expectations.

Ecological apple farming and mushroom picking

On Saturday 2012-09-22 we will be visiting an ecological Apple Farm in Hallstahammar.

They have open house as it is called in Swedish. We will be guided through the gardens and we can ask questions about ecological agriculture and buy fresh apples (bring cash with yourselves).

You may want to read more about the project in the following link:

After that, we will be heading in forest (around Hallstahammar) and Roine who is intrested in Mushrooms and mushroom picking will be with us, explaining which kinds of mushrooms are edible, where can you find them and how should you pick them and maybe some good recepies. ;)

Hiking Club will provide you with some mushroom knives and some paper bags to put the mushrooms you pick in it. Feel free ofcourse to bring your own bags (not plastic ones) and knives.

The plan is to meet infront of the Kåren at 9:30 and be back in Västerås latest 16:00 to be able to participate in the Västerås Culture Night (http://www.vasteraskulturnatt.se/).

We need to drive to Hallstahammar which is 20 minutes from Västerås. Right now we have two cars and 4 places are already occupied. Please let us know if you are definately coming so that we keep a place for you.
Booking can happen by sending a message including your name to the number: 070 74 17 386.

If we receive more than 6 more registrations we will be asking kåren for their car or might ask students with car to drive us there and get paid for their fuel.
We have made arrangements so that they have the presentations in English for us both in the apple garden and for the mushrooms.

Bring some snack, water and something to grill with yourselves for lunch. Desposable Grills will be provided by the club.
We got informed taht at the ecological garden they will be selling soups and home baked bread. Lets bring some cash and buy our lunch there. It will be a kind of support to them also.

Rocklunda 20120915 (21 Km)

Hi to you all who came and did not come!
It was a fun day. Starting with a walk in the area of Rocklunda. Picking up some mushrooms, some berries and meeting some nice, happy Swedes.
Then we had BBQ at the back yard of Kåren and enjoyed the sun which was so warm that some of us tried Swiming in the big lake which is called Mälaren.
Thank you all for the great day.

Report on HT2011 so far

Ok I should say Hi!
And then I wanted to say that so far this semester has been a good semester with this exception taht we have not been on Bruksleden yet and there is a reason behind it!
Shahab and I went for a hike between Skultuna and Västerås the week before the semester starts and it turned out like this:
There were no good signs available for they had cut the trees with the signs and there was water all around and though it was in August we got wet in our feet and got lost and decided to walk back to Västerås on a big road beside all the transportation cars in Asphalt which was not pleasant at all.
But what we did was learning the new comers some routs that they can make daily shorts trips on them by their own in case we can not make any plans and as a result we had one trip to Björno, one trip to Lövuden, one to Skerike and one to Rocklunda. All the trips were between 15 to 20 Kms.
I had been trying to get some one from Västerås city who is responsible for the hiking trek and my attempts resulted in the emails which I put in a separate page like the history thingy that we have.
But what the lady says is that they are still working on it and it might take some time before they can say the trek is in a good shape.
But I promise to find some other fun routs and at least one overnighting trip!
I will be back with more good news

Hiking to Björnö September 10th

Length of the trip: 18 km
From 8 am to 3 pm
Lets start our trip from the main entrance of MDH.
We walk on the orange dotted rout towards the Bear Island (Björnö) and on the way we would make a stop to do shopping for the BBQ at Lidl. It takes us two hours to reach the island. As we get there we make a short pause and walk the 10 km loop during which we will have our lunch. First I wanted to walk the whole group back to the city but many people said it is too much and I decided to catch the bus which goes at 14:45 and will be back in the city center at 15:03.
Comfortable shoes, good humor and happy faces are obligatory.
check the weather and if you thought you might need your jacket take it with you.
Any questions? call me 070 74 17 386 or send an email to mdhhikingclub@gmail.com
See you there
Mahgol
p.s. don't forget to be prepared for your bus ticket from Björnö to the central station. it costs 22 SEK if you pay by card but you can buy it cheaper in the press shops and the main station. The bus in Västerås and most other cities in Sweden is cash free.
